Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. An exciting opportunity has arisen at University Hospital Southampton Trust to undertake a level 6 apprenticeship in Therapeutic Radiography. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team treating patients with cancer using radiation in an innovative and ever developing field of healthcare. Southampton’s Radiotherapy department is newly equipped with state-of-the-art treatment Linacs with Surface-Guided technology fitted on all of these. This exciting role provides candidates with the opportunity to earn whilst you learn, get hands-on clinical practice as well as theory-based learning through Sheffield Hallam University. The apprenticeship runs over 3 years, based in University Hospital Southampton’s Radiotherapy department, and comprises of on-the-job training, off-the-job training with an integrated timetable by Sheffield Hallam University, and completion of a BSc (Hons) degree in Therapeutic Radiography, approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

The post is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities
  • As part of the multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will fulfil a key role in providing radiotherapy, care and support to individuals as specified in standard radiotherapy protocols.
  • To perform a range of radiotherapy duties and procedures, as detailed in the apprenticeship programme, under the supervision of a qualified therapy radiographer.
Entry requirements

The entry requirements ensure the apprenticeship is accessible to a diverse range of applicants while maintaining appropriate standards.

  • Applicants must have the right to abode in the UK
  • Meet the course entry requirements (GCSE or equivalent: Maths and English at level 2 or above, grade 4 or previously C)
  • If you do not have these yet, Sheffield Hallam University will refer you to their functional skills training partner to complete the relevant qualifications during the first year of the apprenticeship.
  • If English is not your first language, an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or equivalent. If level of English is below IELTS 6.5 a pre-sessional English course may be recommended.
Additional qualifications
  • Evidence of successful formal study at Level 3 (A-level, international Baccalaureate diploma, level 3 national certificate, level 3 award, level 3 diploma, level 3 NVQ, T-LEVEL). A full list of level 3 qualifications is available on the Gov.uk website.
  • A minimum of six months experience in a health and social care capacity, including placements or work-based learning as part of a Level 3 qualification.
  • If less than six months experience, alternatives include: 96 UCAS points from three A levels or equivalents; Access to HE Diploma; Level 3 Apprenticeship; HTQ’s Level 4/5 qualifications; or a previous degree.
