Job description
Job Overview

As a Senior Tester in an Agile team, you will lead quality assurance by defining test strategies, mentoring team members in test practices, and ensuring seamless delivery through collaborative, iterative development. You will work as part of an agile Scrum team delivering and improving Companies House services, focusing on advancing our automated testing capabilities and encouraging an automation‑first approach. We have recently migrated from Java/Selenium and BDD frameworks to a state‑of‑the‑art Playwright/TypeScript stack integrated with BrowserStack Automate, and we are seeking enthusiastic Senior Test Engineers with strong technical skills to deliver testing in agile delivery teams and coach and mentor other testers.

The role includes collaboration with developers, product owners, and analysts to define acceptance criteria, design test scenarios, and ensure features deliver a seamless user experience. You will contribute to sprint activities and provide clear, actionable feedback to maintain quality across releases.

Responsibilities
  • Lead quality assurance by defining test strategies and mentoring team members in test practices.
  • Deliver and improve Companies House services within a Scrum team, prioritizing automated testing.
  • Encourage and drive an automation‑first approach.
  • Coach and mentor Junior Test Engineers.
  • Collaborate with developers, product owners, and analysts to define acceptance criteria and design test scenarios.
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback to maintain quality across releases.
Required Experience
  • Proven experience designing and automating software tests, ideally in web and API applications.
  • Strong proficiency in Typescript/Playwright, Java/Selenium or similar modern testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with cloud‑based testing platforms (e.g. BrowserStack Automate).
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Experience with non‑functional testing practices including Security, Performance and Accessibility Testing.

Additional Information

Security Clearance is an essential requirement for this campaign. You must have been in the UK for at least 3 out of the last 5 years to be eligible for SC. Companies House cannot offer visa sponsorship to candidates through this campaign. The team for this role is based in our Cardiff office and a hybrid employment contract will be provided as the standard offering; however remote contracts may be considered as an exception whereby commuting to the office location of your team is not reasonably practicable.
