In this varied and dynamic role, you will provide high‑quality technical support across our state‑of‑the‑art Materials, Structures, and ICAIR Laboratories. You will play a vital part in enabling research, teaching, and commercial projects—contributing directly to groundbreaking work that pushes the boundaries of engineering and structural testing.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑quality technical support across our state‑of‑the‑art Materials, Structures, and ICAIR Laboratories.
  • Provide expert advice, hands‑on assistance, and specialist knowledge across a broad range of technical areas to staff, students, and external partners.
  • Calibrate and maintain specialist equipment.
  • Prepare and set up complex experiments.
  • Operate servo‑hydraulic systems capable of applying loads of up to 1000 kN.
  • Design and build bespoke experimental rigs, drawing on CAD, machining, mechanical engineering, and electrical knowledge to produce high‑quality, reliable solutions.
  • Diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and liaise with external engineers.
  • Generate rigorous Health and Safety documentation and conduct high‑standard risk and COSHH assessments.
  • Train staff and students on equipment and safe operation.
Qualifications
  • Level 3 qualifications (or equivalent experience) and IOSH Managing Safely certification.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment with a solid understanding of instrumentation, electronics, and data acquisition/control systems.
  • Workshop skills desirable but not essential.
