About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned Facilities Management (FM) professional with deep technical expertise in asset maintenance, lifecycle management, and computer-assisted facilities management (CAFM) systems. This role involves supporting legal teams as an expert witness in disputes involving asset maintenance practices, management of aging or end-of-life assets, and the accuracy and limitations of CAFM data systems.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with facilities operations, asset registers, maintenance planning, and system integrations. Familiarity with Planet CAFM software is highly desirable, though not essential if the candidate demonstrates strong knowledge of equivalent systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed reviews of FM practices, asset management processes, and maintenance records.
- Analyze disputes involving assets beyond their economic life, assessing whether maintenance strategies met industry standards.
- Perform in-depth analysis of CAFM data, system configurations, interfaces, and reporting accuracy.
- Evaluate whether the CAFM system accurately represented the asset base, condition, and maintenance history.
- Assess system limitations, integration issues, and potential data discrepancies.
- Prepare clear, unbiased expert reports and technical opinions based on evidence and industry best practices.
- Support legal teams during case development, discovery, and strategy sessions.
- Provide deposition and courtroom testimony as required.
- Conduct site inspections, evidence reviews, and system walkthroughs where necessary.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience (8-10+ years) in Facilities Management, Asset Management, or Maintenance Operations.
- Strong practical knowledge of CAFM systems, workflows, asset registers, PPM scheduling, and maintenance tracking.
- Experience with Planet CAFM is preferred, or similar platforms such as Maximo, Concept Evolution, Archibus, Planon, or CAFM Explorer.
- Strong understanding of the challenges and considerations around end-of-life assets and lifecycle costing.
- Proven ability to analyze large datasets, system interfaces, and digital maintenance records.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex technical issues.
- Prior expert witness or litigation support experience is advantageous but not required.
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of industry standards such as SFG20, ISO 55000, or equivalent FM/asset management frameworks.
- Experience in diagnosing software or data integrity issues in operational FM environments.
- Familiarity with system integrations (e.g., BMS, ERP, procurement tools).
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and system logic.
