Job description

The Technical Design Engineer works on multiple projects along with Project Managers ensuring the team is hitting project deadlines, clients are satisfied and project profit remains on target!

On a day to day basis they work closely with a small team to produce excellent technical CAD drawings on Solidworks and manage client expectations, issues and installations. They will also need to quality control work produced by external suppliers and proposals to be submitted to clients.

If you’re looking to just be fed CAD work this is not the role for you as our Tech Design Engineers play a much bigger part in the overall end to end of a project and ideally progress into a Technical PM role.

It goes without saying that the retail industry is fast paced so the CAD required can sometimes need to be produced to tight deadlines with quick revisions needed. This means you will have ideally three years or more experience with Solidworks.

Ideal Experience
  • Direct experience in retail design & CAD engineering (SOLIDWORKS®) min 3 years
  • Experience with the management of your own projects
  • Deep understanding of materials and manufacturing processes within retail
  • Adobe Suite for art working is a bonus but not essential
  • Being resourceful and using initiative to GET THE JOB DONE
  • Seeing and solving problems BEFORE they happen
  • CARING about what you do, and how you do it
  • Used to working in fast paced retail environment
  • Value engineering with a focus on sustainable development, function and life-cycle value
  • Direct client and manufacturing liaison
Responsibilities & Scope
  • CAD Engineering (using Solidworks) with the key aims of value, function, creativity, sustainability and innovation.
  • Costing out to clients using proven methods and supplier database
  • Technical drawing and development which is of a high standard
  • Supplier visits and quality control
  • Some Project Management (getting the job done with maximum efficiency and service to the brands you work with).
  • Working quickly whilst maintaining a logical, thorough approach
  • Joining client meetings and briefs to ensure translation to CAD design
Opportunity For Progression

Within this role you would be expected to progress to become involved with Project Management potentially leading to a Technical PM role.

There are also more roles you could be promoted to including Technical Design Manager, Technical Design Lead and Head of Engineering.
