The role

As a Technical Author, you’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most critical defence operations. You’ll help shape the future of nuclear submarine maintenance by producing detailed nuclear control documentation that guides fuel handling, defueling and decommissioning processes. Your work will directly contribute to national security and the safe operation of nuclear assets, while offering you a unique opportunity to grow your career in a dynamic and highly specialised environment.

Day-to-day, you’ll support in the production in detailed nuclear control documentation to be utilised by various teams on site.

  • Drafting nuclear documentation that meets strict safety and legislative standards
  • Attending Fuel Handling Procedure Authorisation Group (FHPAG) meetings to support and refine documentation
  • Performing quality checks on your own and peers’ documentation
  • Supporting the development of fuel handling sequence logic
  • Collaborating with Production and Project teams across the site

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days in the office/onsite and days working from home.

Essential Experience Of The Technical Author
  • Strong understanding of plant processes and technical documentation
  • Ability to assess maintenance data and track progress
  • Experience in technical authoring (advantageous)
  • Background in submarine or civil nuclear environments (advantageous)
Qualifications For The Technical Author
  • Level 3 qualification in an engineering discipline or significant relevant experience
  • STEM qualifications considered – electrical discipline beneficial but not essential
