Tech Lead - Azure/.NET

A senior Tech Lead is required to join a well-established E-commerce brand operating at scale, supporting high-throughput, business-critical Back End systems.

This role sits within a core Back End and API-focused team responsible for internal platforms that directly support commercial operations. It is a leadership role first and foremost, focused on technical direction, solution design, and raising engineering standards, rather than day-to-day feature coding.

You'll work closely with senior engineering leadership and a small, capable team, taking clear ownership of technical decisions while nurturing engineers and driving meaningful platform improvements.

The organisation offers flexible working, with West End offices and an expectation of attending roughly once every two weeks.

The Role

• Act as the technical lead for a Back End/API team supporting Real Time, high-availability systems
• Own solution design and architecture, ensuring systems are scalable, resilient and well-governed
• Lead and perform code reviews, setting clear quality bars and best practices
• Provide strong, hands‑on Azure leadership, particularly across Azure PaaS services
• Drive engineering improvement initiatives, including:
• Resilience and failure testing (eg Azure Chaos Studio)
• Database deployment automation
• Improving testing frameworks and CI/CD practices
• Mentor and support engineers, while also being comfortable making and standing behind decisions
• Step into code when needed - to unblock the team, support delivery under pressure, or build proof‑of‑concepts

Key Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with C# and .NET in Back End, API‑driven systems
• Significant, in-depth Azure experience, particularly with Azure PaaS (not Azure‑light exposure)
• Proven experience operating as a Tech Lead or equivalent, with clear examples of: Decision‑making, Accountability, Technical ownership
• Solid background in technical solutions architecture and complex system design
• Experience leading engineering improvement initiatives, not just feature delivery
• Background in E‑commerce is highly valuable, though experience in other Real Time, high‑throughput environments (eg retail banking platforms such as payments, AML, or transaction processing systems) is also relevant
• Strong communication skills, able to work effectively with engineers and non‑technical stakeholders

What This Role Is Not

• Not a pure hands‑on coding role
• Not a step‑up position for someone new to technical leadership
• Not suitable for candidates with shallow Azure exposure or who avoid ownership in decision‑making
