Job description

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader Radiotherapy Radiographer to join our Pre Treatment team. We invite applications from enthusiastic, forward-thinking radiographers with a keen interest in delivering radiotherapy services and a passion for team working and service development. We have a fantastic team approach and are committed to developing all staff to help you achieve and grow your potential as a Team Leader Radiographer.

The Royal Surrey Cancer Centre focuses on providing excellent patient pathways and patient-centred care. We continually evolve to reflect advances in radiotherapy technology. We have recently replaced two Varian TrueBeams with a Varian ETHOS and a Varian Halcyon at our satellite centre. These units are the first in the NHS for in-bore SGRT, and we are scheduled to be the first Centre to implement Hypersight later this year. Surface guided radiotherapy will improve treatment accuracy and support tattoo-less radiotherapy. Our patients benefit from access to two ETHOS units, one Halcyon and four TrueBeams across two radiotherapy centres.

We also have three planning CT scanners, an exceptional Brachytherapy service (HDR, LDR and Papillon kV contact treatment) and an Xstrahl superficial machine.

Role and responsibilities

The purpose of this role is to undertake radiotherapy interventions at a team leader level to the highest professional and technical standards, working with Medical, Radiographic, Physics and Administrative colleagues within the Radiotherapy team. As a key element of the role, the post holder will provide information, education, practical and emotional support to patients and carers during their radiotherapy episode. You will regularly participate in all aspects of radiotherapy activities, with a focus on managing your area of expertise. The post is based at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, with attendance at both East Surrey Hospital and Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford as required.

As a team leader, you will work under the supervision of the Operational Manager and contribute to service development, staff supervision, and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure high-quality patient care.

Location and sites

Royal Surrey Cancer Centre Radiotherapy Department is based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford, and operates a satellite service from East Surrey Hospital in Redhill. This post is based at the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill but will include attendance at both sites. The main site is in Guildford with a satellite centre in Redhill; both offer access to diverse environments and CPD opportunities.

People and culture

Royal Surrey is a compassionate and collaborative Trust that values its 5000 colleagues. We offer a comprehensive health and wellbeing program and are committed to developing and advancing your career. We provide a supportive, diverse, and welcoming environment from your initial interview through your entire tenure.

We are clinically led and provide joined-up care by bridging hospital and community services alongside regional specialist cancer care.

Benefits and working pattern

Our main site is in Guildford with a satellite centre in Redhill. We offer a 9-day fortnight working pattern to give you a fixed day off every two weeks, with opportunities for CPD and links with Macmillan for learning. The post could be based at either site, with both permanent and fixed-term contract opportunities available.
