SEMH Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient full-time Teaching Assistant to support students in Key Stages 3 and 4 at a secondary school in the Bury area. This role is ideal for someone passionate about behaviour support, mental health, and helping young people overcome barriers to learning. Whether you have experience supporting students with SEMH needs or are looking to build a career in pastoral care, youth work, counselling, or behaviour intervention, this position offers meaningful and rewarding experience.

Position Details
  • Location: Bury
  • Position: Teaching Assistant (Secondary – Behaviour/SEMH Focus)
  • Start Date: December 2025
  • Contract Type: Full-time, temporary
  • Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
  • Minimum Pay: £450.00 – £550.00 per week
Teaching Assistant Role Overview
  • Provide tailored support to students across KS3 & KS4, particularly those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.
  • Assist in classroom activities and lead small‑group or 1:1 interventions focused on behaviour regulation, emotional resilience, and positive relationships.
  • Work proactively to de‑escalate behaviour, guide students through challenges, and encourage positive decision‑making.
  • Support students with additional needs, creating a calm, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and parents to ensure consistent and effective support.
  • Contribute to wider school responsibilities, including exam support and general classroom assistance.
Experience, Training & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a secondary school or with young people with SEMH/SEND needs.
  • GCSE English & Maths (Grade C/4 or above).
  • Up‑to‑date safeguarding training (can be provided).
  • Training in Prevent, behaviour management, de‑escalation, or FGM (can be provided).
Requirements
  • Right to Work in the UK.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • Two professional references covering the last two years.
