Teaching Personnel are recruiting Teaching Assistants to work within specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and SEN (Special Educational Needs) schools across Skelmersdale and Chorley. These schools support pupils who require additional emotional, behavioural, and educational support to help them achieve their full potential.

This position is full-time, term-time only, with a October 2026 start and pay competitive, dependent on experience.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, young people, or adults with additional needs or challenging behaviours.
  • Resilient, patient, and confident individuals who can remain calm under pressure.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A proactive and positive attitude towards supporting vulnerable learners.
  • Previous military, coaching, youth work, care, or support work experience is highly desirable.
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and within small groups.
  • Building positive relationships with students who may have SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Encouraging engagement with learning and supporting classroom activities.
  • Promoting positive behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation.
  • Acting as a positive role model for pupils.
  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom environment.
  • Helping create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting Teaching Assistants to work within specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and SEN (Special Educational Needs) schools across Skelmersdale and Chorley. These schools support pupils who require additional emotional, behavioural, and educational support to help them achieve their full potential.

This position would be particularly suitable for individuals with experience managing challenging behaviours, including those from backgrounds such as the Armed Forces, Security, Sports Coaching, Youth Work, Residential Care, Support Work, or Behaviour Mentoring.

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and within small groups.
  • Building positive relationships with students who may have SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position.
