Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a caring Classroom Support Assistant in Wigan to support pupils aged 11-19 with SEND, ASC, SEMH, ADHD and related needs. You will work within a specialist education setting, providing tailored support and facilitating engagement with learning in small classes.

Classroom Support Assistant

Wigan | Full-Time | Term-Time Only

Teaching Personnel are seeking a caring and dedicated Classroom Support Assistant to join a specialist education setting in the Wigan area. Supporting students aged 11-19 years with Autism (ASC), SEMH needs, ADHD, communication difficulties, and additional learning needs, you will play a key role in helping young people engage with learning and achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups within the classroom.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in education.
  • Build positive relationships with students to support their emotional wellbeing and confidence.
  • Adapt resources and learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Support students with communication, social interaction, and life skills development.

Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting individuals with Autism, SEMH needs, ADHD, or behavioural needs would be advantageous.
  • A patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their goals.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Teaching Personnel.
  • Right to work in the UK.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
