Job description

Make a Difference Every Day in a School in Leicester

At Tradewind Recruitment, we're passionate about connecting exceptional people with schools that change lives. We partner with specialist settings and alternative provisions that support young people who've faced barriers to learning - helping them rediscover their confidence, resilience and love of learning.

We're currently seeking a dedicated, patient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our brilliant partner schools and alternative provisions across Bristol. These settings cater to primary and secondary-aged students (4-18) with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ASD, ADHD, trauma‑related needs and other additional challenges that make traditional education difficult.

About the Schools

These schools and provisions provide nurturing, structured environments where pupils are encouraged to rebuild trust in education and in themselves. With small class sizes, a strong sense of teamwork and an emphasis on emotional wellbeing, every member of staff plays a vital role in helping students grow and succeed.

Lessons combine academic, creative and outdoor learning, giving students practical ways to develop independence and self‑esteem. Staff use therapeutic, trauma‑informed approaches, supporting emotional regulation, celebrating small wins and creating safe spaces for positive relationships to thrive.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Offering individual and group support to students in lessons and around the school
  • Helping pupils manage their emotions, build confidence, and engage positively in learning
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff

  • Supporting both academic and personal progress through trust and empathy
What We’re Looking For
  • A genuine desire to support young people with SEMH or additional needs
  • Previous experience as a SEMH Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or in youth work/sports coaching (preferred but not essential)
  • Resilience, empathy and a steady, positive approach
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Interests in PE, creative subjects or outdoor education are a big plus!
The Details
  • Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, term time only
  • Pay: from £100 per day
