Teaching Assistant

Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: January 2026
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Salary: £88 £110 per day

GSL Education is working closely with an Alternative Provision in York and are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join their supportive and inclusive educational team. This is a full-time role providing hands‑on support for learners with a variety of educational and social needs.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to help pupils access the curriculum, develop independence, and achieve their potential. You will support learning in the classroom, provide 1:1 support where needed, and help create a positive, safe, and engaging environment for all students.

About the School

The school provides a nurturing and inclusive setting for children and young people who benefit from small-group teaching and personalised support. Pupils often have additional needs, including SEN, SEMH, or communication challenges. Staff are encouraged to develop strong relationships with learners, supporting both academic progress and personal development.

As the Ideal Teaching Assistant, you should have:
  • Experience working with children, ideally in an educational or care setting
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations
  • Strong communication skills with children, staff, and parents
  • Ability to follow guidance, contribute ideas, and work as part of a team
  • An understanding of SEN and SEMH strategies
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
  • Team Teach Training is ideal but not essential
