Overview

Join Warren Road Primary School as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice. Support teachers, work with pupils individually and in groups, and help improve learning outcomes. Gain hands‑on classroom experience, full training, and safeguarding support while starting a rewarding career in education.

Responsibilities
  • Support the class teacher with daily classroom activities.
  • Work with individual pupils and small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Assist with reading, writing, and other planned tasks.
  • Help prepare and organise classroom resources.
  • Provide feedback on pupil progress to the teacher.
  • Support children with special educational needs as directed.
  • Supervise pupils during activities under teacher guidance.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as updating records.
  • Ensure safeguarding and maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to clarify the TA's role.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers and other stakeholders.
  • Observe, record and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Use up‑to‑date technology safely to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.
Training and Apprenticeship Programme

Training will be delivered by a specialist apprenticeship training provider experienced in Early Years and Teaching. The course follows a blended learning approach, combining on‑the‑job practical experience with online learning and regular tutor visits. Apprentices will have scheduled off‑the‑job training sessions, typically one day per week, to complete coursework and portfolio tasks. Progress reviews take place every 6–8 weeks to ensure development and support throughout the programme. Higher‑Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) roles, Special Educational Needs (SEN) support positions and Early Years Practitioner or Nursery roles are available.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Assistant qualifications and level 4/5 qualifications or teacher training to become a qualified teacher.
  • Must pass an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Be willing to complete safeguarding training.
  • Able to commit to full‑time working hours and comfortable working with children in a classroom environment.
  • Reliable, punctual, professional attitude and patient non‑judgemental approach.
  • Team working, creative initiative, logical thinking.
