Job description
Overview

Help Shape the Future. Teach English. Transform Lives. At Lordswood Boys' School, we believe that literacy is the foundation of equity. That's why our English department is central to our school's journey of success - driving achievement, cultural capital, critical thinking, and confidence in every student. Following a sustained rise in student numbers and consistent English outcomes above national averages at both Grade 4+ and Grade 5+, we are now investing in the next phase of growth by expanding our English team. We are looking to recruit a passionate, committed, and talented English Teacher to join our strong and experienced English faculty. If you're an outstanding ECT looking for exceptional support, or an English teacher ready to shape the next chapter of English excellence in a school which places Literacy at the heart of education, this is an opportunity too good to miss.

Your Role – What You’ll Be Doing

You will join a forward-thinking, ambitious English department at a critical point in its development. Working closely with the Head of English and our Director of Learning and supported by a senior team who prioritise teaching & learning above all else, your work will shape student achievement for years to come.

  • Teach English across KS3 and KS4 with passion, purpose, and precision.
  • Contribute to our high-impact, knowledge-rich curriculum and celebrate the power of literature and language.
  • Foster a love of reading, writing, and speaking in every lesson.
  • Embed high expectations, excellent behaviour, and inclusive classroom practice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student progress, curriculum refinement, and the delivery of engaging enrichment.
  • Contribute to a department-wide ethos of excellence, openness, and innovation.
Who Are We Looking For?

We are building a bigger team—not just filling a vacancy. We welcome applicants at different stages of their career, and we are keen to make several appointments to ensure long-term stability, diversity of thought, and capacity for innovation within our English department.

  • Early Career Teachers (ECTs) looking for a buddy system, structured induction, and outstanding mentoring. Want to grow quickly in a safe, supportive environment where you’ll be truly valued.
  • Experienced Classroom Teachers ready to step into departmental leadership with mentoring and TLR support.
  • Strong classroom practice and ideas for curriculum innovation or intervention.

Above all, we want staff who are:

  • Ambitious for our boys, no matter their starting point.
  • Team players who bring optimism, commitment, and professionalism.
  • Driven by the belief that English—and school itself—can change lives.
Safeguarding & Inclusion

At Lordswood Boys' School, we are fully committed to safeguarding, safer recruitment, and promoting student welfare. We have a rigorous recruitment and selection process to ensure that all staff share our high expectations and commitment to inclusion. We are also dedicated to eliminating discrimination and championing diversity. We want our workforce to reflect society, ensuring that every employee feels valued, respected, and empowered to give their best. We oppose all forms of unlawful discrimination and are committed to providing equal opportunities for all. Successful candidates will be subject to enhanced DBS checks and will need to provide two references, including their most recent employer.
