About Us

Oak Grove College – A wonderful place to work

Oak Grove College is a community generic special school providing special education for 281 students with learning difficulties / disabilities from Year 7 to Year 14. We are part of the Thrive Federation of Schools which also includes Palatine Primary School, Herons Dale School and Cornfield School.

We are immensely proud of our college and our community. We welcome applications from teachers with excellent special or mainstream experience in the primary and / or secondary sector and this post would be suitable for an appropriate ECT.

A programme of support and training will be offered to develop your understanding and skills in special educational needs within a supportive environment.

Applicants who are invited to interview will also be observed working with a class of students to demonstrate how they interact with students and structure learning.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Qualified Teacher status and evidence of appropriate subsequent substantial Inset and / or Continuing Professional Development.

Successful experience of delivering a differentiated curriculum to pupils with a wide range of needs.

Successful experience of managing an effective classroom environment to support student learning and positive behaviour.

Personal Qualities

The ability to inspire, motivate and support students, staff, parents / carers and colleagues.

Evidence of the ability to consult and seek advice and professional support as necessary.

Evidence of the ability to listen and communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences.

The ability to remain calm and reflective when working in a challenging environment.

A well‑developed sense of humour, and emotional intelligence.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Evidence of successful teaching experience to provide exemplar practice to staff and raise the quality of standards in teaching and learning.

Evidence of the ability to lead other professionals in curriculum activities.

Evidence of the ability to work co‑operatively with multi‑disciplinary professionals, governors and other agencies.

Evidence of the ability to promote a positive ethos and pride in the College together with high standards of education, care and behaviour.

Proven ability to use ICT in the organisation and management of their role.

Evidence of a sound knowledge of the current Key Stage 3-5 curriculum issues and a willingness to engage in curriculum development.

Evidence of contributing to college self‑review.

Evidence of developing effective communication strategies with all students especially those with SLD and PMLD.

Evidence / awareness of varied behaviour strategies and approaches to support complex needs.

Evidence of keeping up to date with developments in education and research.

A detailed knowledge of health, safety and safeguarding issues.
