Job description
LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide when it comes to employee engagement and ranked as a Top 50 UK Employer on Glassdoor. Join us in making a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE
Join our Network Control team as a Tactical Controller!

Are you ready to take on a role where your decisions directly shape the future of our water network? Our Operational Control Centre (OCC) is looking for a Tactical Controller who’s passionate about driving real change, solving complex challenges, and making a difference for our customers.

You’ll collaborate with a team of Tactical Controllers and OCC experts to drive improved performance in our end-to-end processes and enhance performance across key Outcome Delivery Incentives (ODIs), particularly reducing supply interruption impact and improving water quality. You will need to build strong relationships internally within the department as well across the wider business including senior management and operational teams. This is a day role based in Network Control at STC Monday – Friday.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
  • Lead the charge on reviewing major events, identifying root causes, and driving improvements that make a measurable impact.
  • Chair stakeholder calls to align teams and implement changes that strengthen our processes and network assets.
  • Own and evolve the event review process, delivering insights that shape how we operate and respond, including creating practical tools and documentation to support the control room during incidents.
  • Boost network resilience by investigating smarter ways to restore customer supplies during incidents.
  • Opportunity for site visits and the development of closer collaborative working between Network Control and operational teams.
  • Prepare for the unexpected by helping the team navigate weather-related events and look for ways to proactively optimize control group configurations.
  • Support system upgrades and improvements in collaboration with OCC subject matter experts.
  • Provide out-of-hours standby support as part of our Network Control Incident Management Framework.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re seeking someone who’s:

  • Experienced in water network operations and familiar with hydraulic systems.
  • Proactive and driven, with a sharp analytical mind and a passion for continuous improvement. You will be expected to drive tasks to completion rather than wait for them to complete themselves.
  • A strong communicator who can simplify complex topics and influence stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Calm under pressure, adaptable to change, and ready to take ownership of challenges.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

Working here isn’t just a job. You can build a career at Severn Trent. We’ll reward you for it, too. We have a range of benefits that recognise great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the communities where we live.

With that in mind, here are just some of our favourite's perks that you’ll get being part of the Seven Trent family:

  • Salary: up to £47,000 dependent on experience.
  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/ sell up to 5 days per year)
  • Annual bonus scheme (of up to £2,250 per annum based on company performance)
  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
  • Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent Plc shares at a discounted rate
  • Dedicated training and development with our ‘Academy’
  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail offers
  • Family friendly policies
  • Two volunteering days per year
