Job summary

Veritas Education is seeking a dedicated Supply SEN Primary Teacher to work with children aged 4-11 across special schools, alternative provisions and mainstream SEN units. You will adapt the primary curriculum to meet individual needs and deliver engaging lessons that build academic, communication and life skills.

You will support pupils through EHCPs/IEPs, track progress and collaborate with teaching assistants, SENCOs, parents and therapists to provide consistent, inclusive learning.

Qualifications

• Qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent.
• Enhanced DBS check required.
• Experience with SEN in education, care or specialist settings.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and positive behaviour management.
• Experience with autism, ADHD or complex needs is advantageous.
• Willingness to work flexibly across different primary schools.
• Ability to adapt lessons for diverse needs.

Job Title: Supply SEN Primary Teacher

The Role:

A dedicated and adaptable Supply SEN Primary Teacher working with children aged 4-11 years who have physical, learning, sensory, communication or behavioural difficulties. You will deliver engaging and accessible lessons across special schools, alternative provisions and mainstream SEN units, adapting the primary curriculum to meet individual needs.

You will support pupils to develop their academic abilities alongside their communication, independence, emotional regulation, social and life skills, creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lesson Planning & Delivery - Deliver engaging, creative and accessible lessons, adapting the primary curriculum and breaking down learning into small, manageable steps to suit individual abilities and learning styles.
• Individual Support Plans - Follow and contribute to EHCPs, IEPs and individualised support plans, ensuring teaching and support are tailored to each child's needs.
• Progress Tracking & Assessment - Assess pupil attainment, mark work and maintain accurate records of academic, social, emotional and personal development.
• Behaviour Support - Use positive behaviour management, de-escalation strategies and consistent boundaries to promote a calm, safe and supportive classroom environment.
• Emotional & Pastoral Support - Build trusting relationships with pupils, providing reassurance, encouragement and emotional support to help develop confidence, resilience and self-esteem.
• Communication Support - Support pupils with speech, language and communication needs using appropriate strategies and resources, including visual timetables, communication aids, PECS or Makaton where appropriate.
• Sensory & Regulation Support - Plan and deliver sensory-based activities, sensory circuits, regulation opportunities and Zones of Regulation strategies to support pupils' sensory and emotional needs.
• Strong Collaboration - Work closely with teaching assistants, SENCOs, parents, carers, therapists, psychologists and other professionals to provide consistent support.
• Adaptability - Quickly adapt to different school environments, routines and individual pupil needs while maintaining a consistent and professional approach.

Requirements:

• Ability to empathise with vulnerable children and patiently build positive relationships, trust and rapport.
• Emotional resilience with the ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain clear, consistent boundaries.
• Experience working with children with additional educational needs in an educational, care or specialist setting.
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory. (We can help advise on this.)
• Good understanding of SEN, safeguarding and positive behaviour management.
• Experience supporting children with Autism, ADHD, complex needs, communication difficulties or sensory processing needs would be advantageous.
• Specialist training or qualifications such as Team Teach, Makaton, PECS, Autism or Safeguarding training would be advantageous.
• Ability to work flexibly across different primary schools and adapt quickly to new environments and routines.
