Job summary

Veritas Education is seeking enthusiastic Unqualified SEN Classroom Support staff to assist pupils across mainstream and specialist schools in West Yorkshire. Previous school-based experience is not essential, as transferable childcare or support roles are valued.

Title: Unqualified SEN Classroom Support

The Role:

Enthusiastic and compassionate Unqualified SEN Classroom Support staff support pupils across mainstream and specialist schools throughout West Yorkshire. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone looking to begin or develop a career within education and passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND.

Previous school-based experience is not always required, as transferable experience from childcare, care work, support work, youth work, sports coaching or similar backgrounds is highly valued. You will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff to help pupils access learning, develop independence and feel safe and supported within the school environment.

Direct Support:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support within the classroom.
• Support pupils with Autism, ADHD, communication needs, SEMH, behavioural needs and complex learning difficulties.
• Support pupils to access lessons, activities and learning resources.
• Help pupils develop confidence, independence, communication and social skills.
• Provide emotional, social and pastoral support throughout the school day.
• Promote positive behaviour and support pupils who may become distressed or dysregulated.
• Use appropriate strategies to help pupils manage their emotions and engage positively with learning.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, understanding their individual needs and triggers.
• Support teachers with classroom activities and help create a safe and engaging learning environment.
• Monitor and communicate pupil progress, behaviour and well-being to teaching staff.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and wider support staff to provide consistent support.
• Be willing to undertake relevant training and develop your knowledge of SEND and classroom support.

Requirements:

• Experience working with children, young people, vulnerable individuals or within care/support settings is desirable - paid or voluntary experience is welcomed.
• No formal SEN qualification is required for this role.
• A genuine interest in supporting children and young people with additional needs.
• Able to be patient, empathetic and resilient.
• Calm and confident when supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour or become emotionally dysregulated.
• Able to build positive relationships and understand individual pupil needs.
• Flexible and willing to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
• A strong communicator and effective team player.
• Willing to learn and complete relevant training and CPD.
• Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory. (We can help advise on this.)
• Any relevant specialist training or qualifications, such as Safeguarding, Team Teach or First Aid, would be advantageous but are not essential.
• You must have legal right to work in the UK
• You must be willing to attend a registration interview
