Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is seeking a Qualified SEN Secondary Teacher to educate students aged 11-19 with physical, learning, sensory or behavioural needs. You will adapt the secondary curriculum, write IEPs and support independent living and social skills in special schools or mainstream units.

The role requires empathy, patience, emotional resilience, strong communication and active listening. You will work closely with families and multidisciplinary teams; DBS check is mandatory and QTS

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Enhanced DBS check is mandatory (we can assist with this).
  • Specialist training/qualifications (Team Teach, safeguarding certificates) are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and adapt curriculum to meet individual learning needs.
  • Write, monitor and review EHCP/IEP plans.
  • Track student progress with assessments and records.
  • Support positive behaviour and provide emotional support in class.
  • Collaborate with parents, guardians and other professionals.
  • Organise trips, training and developmental activities.
  • Plan sensory-based lessons and PSHE activities.

Job description

Job Title: Qualified SEN Secondary Teacher
The Role:

A qualified Special Educational Needs (SEN) Secondary Teacher educated students aged 11-19 years with physical, learning, sensory or behavioural difficulties. Adapting secondary curriculum, writing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and foster independence, life skills and social skills within special schools or alternative provisions/ mainstream units.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lesson Planning and Adapting standard curriculum to break down complex concepts into small manageable steps to suit individual learning styles.
  • Plan Management - Write, monitor and review individualised support plans (EHCP/ IEP)
  • Progress tracker / assessments - Track student attainments, mark work and maintain detailed records of academic and personal growth.
  • Behaviour support - Implement positive behaviour management, de-escalation strategies and emotional support networks to foster a safe and supportive classroom environment.
  • Strong collaboration - liaising with parents, guardians, specialised practitioners/ therapists, psychologists and social workers.
  • Organise trips, attend workshops and training.
  • Plan sensory based lessons/ regulation opportunities - exploring sensory, zones of regulation, sensory circuits, PSHE - building relationships/ hygiene/ sleep/ safety.
Requirements:
  • Ability to empathise with vulnerable pupils & patiently build trust and rapport.
  • Utilise emotional resilience with the capacity to stay calm under intense pressure and set clear boundaries.
  • Have strong communication skills with strong active listening and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience working with children or adults with additional educational needs in educational or care settings.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory. (We can help advise on this)
  • Specialist training/ qualifications (Team Teach, Safeguarding Certificates etc)
