Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join our Substance Misuse team at Gatwick IRC, an Immigration Removal Centre located at Gatwick.

Gatwick IRC is a detention centre on the grounds of Gatwick Airport. The role supports the wider healthcare team as a Healthcare Assistant within the Substance Misuse Team.

Hours: 15 hours per week (2 days a week, any two days from Monday – Friday).

Salary: Part‑time, up to £29,000 per annum FTE, pro‑rated for part‑time hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with team members to assess patient needs and risks.
  • Provide evidence‑based care to a caseload of psychosocial patients, listening to and acting on their feedback.
  • Deliver a programme of psychosocial interventions and advise on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cessation, blood‑borne viruses and safe sex practices.
  • Provide non‑judgemental one‑to‑one care and group support, assisting nursing and pharmacy teams in primary care settings.
  • Apply the HiJ competency framework, following policies, procedures and safeguarding practice.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Evidence of CPD.
  • Relevant degree/qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in structured psychosocial interventions.
  • Experience working within a substance misuse multi‑disciplinary framework, including housing, social care, healthcare and mental health pathways.
  • Non‑judgemental and compassionate approach.
  • Excellent communication skills.
