Job summary

Oxford Ionics, part of IonQ, is building the next generation of quantum systems. We seek a highly technical Staff Software Engineer for the System Orchestration team to keep the control plane reliable and efficient across a growing fleet of quantum computers.

You will work hands-on in Rust, focusing on scheduling, stateful services, observability and deterministic behavior to ensure continuous, high-fidelity operation.

Qualifications

• Deep systems engineering experience in production services.
• Experience operating loss-sensitive data systems.
• Hands-on coding in a fast-moving, technical team.
• Ability to write documentation and communicate design decisions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and operate the system orchestration control plane.
• Ensure durability and recovery contracts across the fleet.
• Diagnose failures under live load.
• Scale services as the fleet grows.
• Collaborate with runtime and systems teams.
