Job summary

IonQ, Inc. is seeking a highly technical Staff Software Engineer for the System Orchestration team in System Software at Oxford Ionics.

You will build and operate software that calibrates, schedules, and records actions across our quantum computers, enabling continuous, high-fidelity operation of a large trapped-ion system. The role is hands-on, with collaboration across runtime, systems, operators, and scientists.

Qualifications

• Deep systems engineering experience with durable, live-data services.
• Experience operating stateful networked services (production).
• Proficiency in Rust or equivalent systems language with async programming.

Responsibilities

• Take on problems that span the whole control plane - durability and recovery contracts.
• Make a machine's readiness a reliable part of the control plane; diagnose failures under live load.
• Remove whole classes of failure across the fleet, not just incidents.
• Define boundaries between services and migrate code accordingly.
• Prove design correctness through rigorous reviews and testing.
• Build tooling and test infrastructure to accelerate the team.
• Evolve deployment and operation methods as the fleet grows.
• Raise the bar of teammates through code and reviews.
