Job summary

IonQ, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer for its System Orchestration team in System Software at Oxford Ionics. You will build the control plane that schedules, tunes, and logs quantum computer work across a fleet, enabling autonomous calibration and efficient execution of quantum programs.

Ideal candidates have strong programming skills, experience with Rust or a willingness to learn, and a background in systems programming, databases, and APIs for a highly technical environment.

Qualifications

Strong programming skills in one or more mainstream programming languages.
Experience with a systems programming language; Rust experience or willingness to learn it.
Comfort with relational databases and SQL (PostgreSQL).
Exposure to networked services and APIs (gRPC/REST).
Experience with schedulers, job queues, or workflow engines.

Responsibilities

Develop and extend services that schedule work on quantum computers and record results.
Own end-to-end features from API to rollout on real machines.
Improve the observability and reliability of the services you ship.
Contribute to code reviews and API design for internal users.
Collaborate with runtime, systems, operators, and scientists to deploy updates.
