Job summary

IonQ is seeking a highly technical Staff Software Engineer to join the System Orchestration team in Oxford Ionics. You will build and operate software that calibrates and governs quantum computers, keeping workloads in tune and producing correct results around the clock.

Role emphasizes hands-on coding in a fast-moving, highly technical team, with strong emphasis on determinism, observability, and scalable deployment across a growing fleet. Prior quantum experience not required.

Qualifications

• Deep systems engineering experience and ability to operate services where data loss is not an option.
• Experience with Rust or willingness to work in a Rust codebase, including async programming.
• Knowledge of stateful networked services, gRPC/REST, and PostgreSQL.

Responsibilities

• Work across the control plane to support the delivery of a system relied on by the fleet.
• Remove whole classes of failure and raise the bar for the engineering team.
• Develop tooling and test infrastructure to accelerate delivery and reliability.
