Job summary

IonQ, Inc. in Oxford is seeking a highly technical Senior Software Engineer for the System Orchestration team in System Software.

You will build and operate software that calibrates and choreographs our quantum systems, keeping the fleet running with minimal human intervention. You'll work on a control plane that schedules programs, manages exclusive access, streams results, and records every action across the fleet, enabling high fidelity quantum operations.

Qualifications

• Experience building stateful services that stay correct under failure.
• Ability to own a problem area with minimal supervision and work in a fast-moving team.
• Solid Rust experience or deep proficiency in another systems language with willingness to work in Rust.

Responsibilities

• Own a group of device controllers end to end, covering API design, implementation, rollout and ongoing operational health.
• Make services robust against instrument failure modes.
• Bring devices onto our framework and roll out fleet-wide without disrupting experiments.
• Improve the shared framework to address common problems across controllers.
• Strengthen observability, health checks and alerting with systems teams.
• Mentor less experienced engineers through code reviews and pairing.
