Job summary

Engine by Starling is seeking a Staff Infrastructure Engineer to design, build and run scalable cloud foundations across regions and providers. You’ll drive reliability, security by design, and cost efficiency in a fast-moving fintech environment.

You will own complex infra projects from inception to production, write RFCs and ADRs, and lead by example to raise technical standards across the team. A strong background in GCP, Terraform, CI/CD, and security controls is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with multi-region disaster recovery on GCP.
• Ability to bootstrap Google Cloud Organisations and structure resource hierarchies.
• Experience with GCP services including GKE, Compute Engine, IAM and VPC Service Controls.
• Proficient in writing clean, modular Terraform code.
• Experience with containers, distributed systems and immutable infrastructure.
• Experience with key/secret management on GCP (KMS, EKM, Secret Manager).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation.

Responsibilities

• Design, document, build and maintain scalable infrastructure on GCP.
• Ensure performance, reliability and cost-effectiveness of cloud environments.
• Embrace automation and minimize manual work.
• Build security by design as a core foundation.
• Ensure platform compliance with ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS and 3DS.
• Lead complex infra projects from inception to production and shape future capabilities.
• Write RFCs and ADRs with runbooks and operating models.
