Job summary

Starling is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design, build and operate cloud foundations across regions and providers. You will own scalable GCP infrastructure, implement security by design and drive automation across the platform.

You will work in a hybrid model, collaborating with engineers to deliver reliable, observable systems that power our cloud-native banking platform for global customers.

Qualifications

• Experience with multi-region GCP disaster recovery.
• Bootstrapping Google Cloud Organisations and enforcing policies.
• GCP services including GKE, Compute Engine, IAM and VPC Service Controls.
• Clean, modular Terraform code.
• Service-oriented architecture using containers and immutable infrastructure.
• Key and secret management on GCP — Cloud KMS, EKM and Secret Manager.
• Hybrid connectivity from GCP to on-premise locations; NCC, VPN, Interconnect.
• Observability tooling including Cloud Monitoring/Logging/Trace and OpenTelemetry.
• Automation using Python or Go; CI/CD pipelines.
• RESTful API and event-driven concepts; RFCs/ADRs with runbooks.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex infra projects from inception to production.
• Design, document, build and maintain scalable infrastructure on GCP.
• Ensure performance, reliability and cost-effectiveness of cloud environments.
• Embrace automation; minimize manual implementation.
• Security by design; ensure compliance with ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS.
• Manage key/secret infrastructure (KMS/EKM) and cryptographic ceremonies.
• Write RFCs and ADRs; create operational runbooks and training.
