Job summary

Engine by Starling seeks a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, and run scalable cloud foundations across regions and providers. You’ll lead complex infra projects, emphasize security by design, and drive automation while maintaining observability and cost efficiency.

You’ll contribute to hybrid infrastructure, manage key/secret controls, and help shape Engine’s future capabilities in a fast-paced fintech environment. Strong GCP and Terraform experience required.

Qualifications

• Proven multi-region GCP disaster recovery experience.
• Bootstrapping Google Cloud Organisations and policy hardening.
• Experience with GCP services including GKE, Compute Engine, IAM and VPC controls.
• Clean, modular Terraform code experience.
• SOA using containers, distributed systems and immutable infrastructure.
• Key and secret management on GCP incl. cryptographic ceremonies.
• Hybrid connectivity from GCP to on-premise, NCC and VPN concepts.
• Observability tooling with Cloud Monitoring/Logging and Grafana.
• Automation with Python or Go; CI/CD pipelines.
• RESTful API and event-driven concepts; written RFCs/ADRs with runbooks.

Responsibilities

• Design, document, build and maintain scalable infrastructure on GCP.
• Ensure performance and reliability of cloud environments and cost effectiveness.
• Automate and reduce manual implementations; secure by design.
• Maintain platform security and ISO/SOC/PCI compliance considerations.
• Manage key/secret controls (Cloud KMS, EKM, Secret Manager).
• Diagnose and fix infrastructure issues with peak security in mind.
• Write technical docs and lead training for the team.
• Lead complex infra projects from inception to production; shape future Engine capabilities.
• Set high technical standards and lead by example.
