Qualifications

  • Strong technical expertise in PWB standards (UL 796, UL 796F, UL 746E, UL 746F).
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and contribute to standards development.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Expand and develop the PWB performance/reliability business.
  • Participate in PWB Technical Staff Committees for standard development.
  • Support innovation and strategic initiatives for UL’s PWB safety.
  • Determine project scope and specifications with latitude for decisions.
  • Recommend changes in procedures or equipment when necessary.
  • Initiate communication with clients to promote new services.
  • Provide technical assistance for complex product evaluation.
  • Resolve technical issues and explain UL procedures.
  • Plan and supervise major projects.
  • Notify clients of compliance issues with UL requirements.
  • Integrate continuous improvement concepts in all aspects.
  • Develop criteria for testing products beyond existing standards.
  • Represent UL in national and international technical committees.
  • Provide leadership on special projects involving complex issues.

Our consumer, medical & IT technologies team is seeking an experienced Staff Engineer - PWB (Printed Wiring Board) who will be primarily responsible for PWB performance/reliability and safety business. The role also involves identifying and developing new opportunities aligned with PWB standards to drive business growth for UL Solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Expand and develop the PWB performance/reliability business.
  • Participate in the PWB Technical Staff Committees for standard development and identify new opportunities.
  • Support innovation and strategic initiatives to strengthen UL’s leadership in PWB safety and reliability.
  • Determine project scope and specifications with substantial latitude for action or decision.
  • Recommend changes in procedures, design or equipment where necessary.
  • Initiate communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services.
  • Communicate with clients to provide technical assistance in reference to complex product evaluation and/or inspection and follow‑up services.
  • Resolve technical issues and explain UL procedures and requirements.
  • Plan, conduct and supervise projects of major magnitude and scope.
  • Determine areas in which the product is not in compliance with UL requirements or of any changes in project scope or specifications and notifies client.
  • Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Develop UL requirements for testing products beyond the scope of existing standards, or those involving unique features requiring frequent use of independent judgment.
  • Represent UL on technical committees of national and/or international organizations.
  • Provide leadership and technical advice on special projects that involve complex, new or unusual issues.
