Job description

Would you like to join the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Team at Southmead and Cossham Hospitals to play a vital role in supporting our work with people who have communication or swallowing difficulties?

Previous support worker experience is not necessary, but we are looking for someone with a keen interest in this area of work and an awareness of the role of Speech and Language Therapy for adult outpatients., A Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Support Worker supports registered SLTs to meet patient needs. The SLT Support Workerprovides assistanceand therapy to patients as delegated by the registered practitioner and directed by theappropriate teamleader.

An SLT Support Worker will be expected to undertake a range ofduties under direction and willbe requiredto report back on those delegated duties to an SLT.

The SLT Support Worker will be competent to provide compassionate assistance and therapy to agreed quality standards. The SLT Support Worker will be supported and expected to acquire and developskills appropriate to this post.

This post would include the following: preparing therapy materials, carrying out speech and language therapy related activities with the patients, family and staff (some of which will be face to face in outpatient setting, patients home or care home, and some will be over the telephone or video calls), assistingwith administrative tasks (egscanning, photocopying,data entry, supporting therapy group bookings) and maintaining equipment and communication aids. There may be an occasional need to accompany SLTs on patient home visits.
