Speech and Language Therapist - Band 5 Community Stroke & Neuro Rehab

Manchester Foundation Trust (MFT) Local Care Organisation (LCO) has an exciting opportunity for an empathetic and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join our established Community Stroke and Neuro Rehabilitation Team in a Band 5 post.

The post involves carrying a complex and varied caseload of patients with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties. Due to the nature of the caseload, the successful candidate will have excellent opportunities to develop their clinical skills within a highly skilled, specialist Multi-disciplinary Team. This will involve working closely with Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Specialist Nurses, Dietitians and Neuro Psychologists. In addition to this there will be opportunities to develop skills in leadership and delivering service change.

The service is passionate about delivering high quality, patient centred care within the patient's own homes and wider community settings and as a result the successful candidate will have a driving license and be required to travel across the borough of Trafford.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide assessment and intervention for patients with acquired swallowing and/or communication problems, for the Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team and Community Stroke Team as required.
  • To work as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team to deliver integrated care plans with patient needs and goals at the forefront of care.
  • To take on the support and development for registered and non-registered staff members in the service and students.
  • To be involved in service development and incentives to improve patient care and ensure the provision of a high quality service.

Qualifications
  • Registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Accredited degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent

  • Further health related qualification/ relevant study
Knowledge / Skills
  • Knowledge of speech and language therapy assessment and treatment techniques relevant to adults with acquired communication or swallowing difficulties.
  • Ability to demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk.
  • Understanding of clinical effectiveness and its implications for services, including experience of quality issues, audit and evidence-based practice.
  • Commitment to engage in CPD.
  • Ability to appraise own performance.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of research and audit.
  • Awareness of relevant National guidance.
  • Experience of supervision of assistants.
Experience
  • Evidence of experience with relevant neurological conditions.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development including relevant attendance at postgraduate courses and conferences within the clinical speciality.>
  • Previous Community experience.
  • Previous NHS experience.
  • Completion of RCSLT dysphagia competencies A/B.
