This post is fixed term/secondment for 26 months due to funding.

Are you a passionate Speech and Language Therapist looking to make a real difference in the lives of children and their families? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Universal and Targeted Speech and Language Therapy team in ABUHB, working in partnership with Torfaen Local Authority.

We are looking for innovative and enthusiastic therapists with a passion for evidence-based practice and early intervention. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in partnership with health and local authority colleagues, ensuring families receive timely and effective support. You will join an existing network of Speech and Language Therapists across Gwent. Supervision and support will be provided on an individual basis and within team meetings.

The role is vital in ensuring that families have access to universal and targeted level advice for language development where pathways and groups are evidence-based and deliver positive outcomes. Pathways and delivery of training need to ensure that children receive the right support from the right person at the right time whether that is at universal or targeted levels or seeking support from specialist service.

Main duties of the job

Oversee & support universal & targeted speech & language therapy services within the Torfaen Early Years Service.

Support the Early Years programme across its key strands: childcare, parenting, health visiting, & early language support.

Collaborate with multi-agency teams to ensure effective, evidence-based pathways for language development support in line with the national Speech, Language and Communication strategy.

Plan, coordinate & deliver training and support to the Early Years workforce within Flying Start.

Provide advice & guidance on supporting specific children within Flying Start interventions or childcare & advising on appropriate next steps.

A dynamic, proactive approach to multidisciplinary working with strong interpersonal skills.

Clinical experience of working with speech, language & communication needs in early years settings.

A strong commitment to evidence-based practice.

Skills & experience in planning, coordinating & delivering training.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable, English &Welsh speakers are encouraged to apply.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Speech and Language Therapy Degree. Registered with HCPC. Member of RCSLT. Knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools for client group. Knowledge of specific assessment/treatment tools for clients with complex needs. Knowledge of clinical governance issues. Knowledge of national policies in Health and Social Care.
  • Post graduate training in teaching others. Post graduate training in working with multidisciplinary and multiagency team. Some Research methodology/ clinical audit training. Excellent knowledge of national policies in Health and Social Care. Excellent knowledge of validity and reliability of assessment tools. Reflective practice theory.
Experience
  • Significant post graduate experience in speciality services. Experience of performing and analysing highly complex assessments. Experience of working with support workers/technical instructors, multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Experience of working with clients in a variety of settings and across agencies. Experience of running support and therapy groups for patients and/or carers. Experience of partnership working with other agencies. Experience of contributing to policy documents.
