Speech & Language Teaching Assistant | Waltham Forest

Location: Waltham Forest, E17 (commutable from Stratford, Ilford, Leyton, Hackney, Tottenham)

Pay: £105-£115 per day

Contract Type: Ongoing

Working Days: 2 days per week

Start Date: ASAP

A primary school in Waltham Forest is looking for a Speech & Language Teaching Assistant to join their team on a part-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience supporting children with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN), particularly across Early Years and KS1.

You'll be working 1:1 and in small groups to deliver targeted interventions, helping pupils with developmental language disorder (DLD), autism, and ADHD to communicate confidently and access the curriculum.

Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with SLCN through structured, evidence-based interventions
  • Use strategies such as Colourful Semantics, Shape Coding, and visual supports
  • Work closely with the SENCo and external professionals to monitor progress
  • Create a calm, inclusive environment that supports language development
  • Keep clear records and contribute to EHCP reviews
Candidate Requirements
  • Experience supporting children with speech and language needs in school or clinical settings
  • Knowledge of tools such as narrative therapy, Lego Therapy, or phonics
  • Confident, compassionate, and proactive approach
  • Degree in Speech & Language Therapy, Linguistics, Psychology or similar (ideal but not essential)
