Job description

We've been assigned by one of the best performing NHS Trusts in the UK to help them recruit a Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics on either a Substantive or a 12-month NHS Fixed Term basis.

Our client has a 9-bedded Intensive Care Unit with an adjacent 4-bedded Coronary Care Unit. The ICU has about 600 admissions a year and actively participates in several multi-centre trials. The ICU has its own Research Nurse, and a separate junior doctors rota exclusively for critical care, including trainees from Medicine and Anaesthetics. There is a dedicated consultant anaesthetist for Intensive Care from 0800 to 1800 hours daily, and a separate on-call consultant anaesthetist for critical care, with regular ward rounds including weekends. The 10-bedded Surgical HDU, located on the same floor as theatres, has facilities for invasive monitoring, inotropic support, and CPAP, with approximately 1000 admissions annually.

The appointee will undertake various duties, including maintaining liaison with colleagues, participating in the resident duty rota, providing cover for emergency theatres or obstetrics, and working in remote environments or transferring critically ill patients when on-call. There is an encouragement to develop interests in medical education or quality improvement, with support provided. The post holder will have delegated responsibility for all patients under the care of the Consultants and will refer to them when issues exceed their authority or experience. Active participation in clinical audits and implementing their results in line with Trust policies on Clinical Governance is expected.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity based in the South East at one of the UK's largest trusts, with proximity to two international airports and outstanding private and public schools.

Additional Information:

  • Excellent leadership within the team
  • 10 PA's per week (potential to increase)
  • Must have GMC Registration
  • Outstanding nearby schools
  • Excellent location in one of Europe's biggest cities
