A leading healthcare provider in the UK is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced pharmacist to join their dynamic team at Wexham Park Hospital. The role includes rotating through various specialties such as Paediatrics and Medicine, alongside developing clinical pharmacy services. Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, and experienced pharmacist to be part of a dynamic team working at Wexham Park Hospital.

This post is suitable for Primary Care Pharmacists who would like to embark on hospital pharmacy journey, as well as junior hospital pharmacists who would like to expand their experience and take a specialist rotational role within hospital.

The post holder will be rotating in different specialities including Paediatrics, Haematology/Oncology, Medicine & Surgery, and ITU.

Our Band 7 rotations are geared towards preparing staff for the next step in their career.

You will work closely with the Lead Pharmacists, clinicians, nursing staff and other senior managers to develop pharmaceutical services to patients within the relevant directorates.

*** Although the position is advertised as fixed term, the current post holder will not be returning, and it is highly likely that this role will be re-advertised as a permanent position towards the end of 2026 ***

Main duties of the job
  • To partake in the Band 7 Rotations through different clinical specialties- including (but not limited to) Paediatrics, Medicine & Surgery.
  • To develop the clinical pharmacy service to patients within the specialist area.
  • The provision of a clinical pharmacy service to patients within the specialist areas.
  • To act as a role model in the field of clinical pharmacy practice and provide a consistently high standard of clinical service in line with the pharmacy objectives.
  • The recruitment, and development of staff under the postholder.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide a high-quality clinical pharmacy service across specialist and general ward areas in line with Trust policies, current legislation, and departmental standards.
  • Work closely with Lead Pharmacists, clinicians, nurses, and senior managers to develop, implement, and evaluate pharmaceutical services and protocols to ensure safe, effective, and cost-effective use of medicines.
  • Assess pharmaceutical care needs, undertake medicines reconciliation and optimisation, develop and implement care plans, review and adjust drug therapy, counsel patients, support discharge planning, and provide medicines advice to healthcare staff.
  • Attend ward rounds as required.
  • Act as an independent prescriber in accordance with Trust guidelines.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, research, service development, formulary management, and prescribing committees.
  • Support cost-effective prescribing and drug evaluations.
  • Provide education and training to multidisciplinary staff and students, supervise and develop junior pharmacy staff, and contribute to CPD.
  • Assist with dispensary services when required and participate in on-call, weekend, and bank holiday rotas.
  • Provide a high-quality clinical pharmacy service across specialist and general ward areas in line with Trust policies, current legislation, and departmental standards.
  • Work closely with Lead Pharmacists, clinicians, nurses, and senior managers to develop, implement, and evaluate pharmaceutical services and protocols to ensure safe, effective, and cost-effective use of medicines.

Qualifications
  • Pharmacy degree (Master level 4 years)
  • Registered with GPhC
  • Within 12 months of completion of Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
  • Independent pharmacist Prescriber
  • Completion of Diploma in Clinical Practice OR equivalent
