Specialist Pharmacist - Biologics

- Support the Lead Pharmacist for Biologics and the Lead Pharmacist for High-Cost Therapies Management & Homecare Services to maximise safe and cost-effective best practice in prescribing.
- Support the Lead Pharmacists in helping patients get the best from their medicines by switching medications to agreed and approved protocols.
- Support the Lead Pharmacists in the delivery and development of high-quality clinical pharmacy services and medicines optimisation initiatives related to the use of biosimilar.
- Support the Lead Pharmacists in identifying patients who would be suitable for treatment with a biosimilar medicine and obtain patient consent for the switch to the biosimilar product.
- Support the Lead Pharmacists in monitoring patients who have been initiated or switched to a biosimilar medicine to ensure efficacy and safety.
- Support the Lead Pharmacists in monitoring the costs involved with the use of biosimilar medicines and contribute to the trust's Cost Improvement Programme (CIP).
- To support with the development and delivery of education and training initiatives for patients and other healthcare professionals in relation to the use of biosimilar medicines.
- The postholder will be required to deliver the above across all Moorfields sites. This includes services at City Road as well as Moorfields Satellite Sites across the North and South Networks.
Main duties of the job
To support the Lead Pharmacists and work with clinicians to identify the opportunity for biosimilar introduction.
- To support the Lead Pharmacists in identifying those patients suitable for receiving the biosimilar medicine.
- To ensure other members of the team involved in the process understand the use of biological and biosimilar medicines and are familiar with the processes involved with initiation of treatment or switching patients to the biosimilar medicine.
- To support the Lead Pharmacists in ensuring that shared decision making is possible and supported by written materials, information session, education and patient alert cards/supplementary information leaflets.
- To support the Lead Pharmacists in monitoring and follow up of patients who have been initiated or switched to the biosimilar medicine to ensure efficacy and safety.
- To contribute to the trust's Cost Improvement Plan (CIPs) by ensuring savings can be used effectively to offset costs, incentivise change and improve patient care.
- To participate in education and training activities as appropriate for pharmacy and other clinical staff groups.
- To provide active support for, and input into, pharmacy and medicines clinical governance and risk management initiatives and processes.
- To ensure safe and effective storage, dispensing and supply of high-cost medicines including biosimilars.
- To promote and collaborate on clinical audit related to the use of biosimilar medicines to ensure safety and efficacy of treatment.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Registered as pharmacist with GPhC
- Postgraduate clinical diploma / MSc in pharmacy practice or equivalent
Experience
- Working within a specialist pharmacy role
- Extensive experience in a hospital pharmacy setting
- Experience in practice research or audit
- Experience in delivering E&T sessions to other staff
- Experience of service development / project management
- Experience in medicines expenditure analysis and reporting
Knowledge
- Good clinical knowledge and sound decision making
- Understanding of medicines usage and issues across various settings
- Ophthalmic Pharmacy
- Experience of CIPs / QIPP initiatives
Skills
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Good influencing and negotiating skills
