Job description

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) provide vital services to the NHS, improving patient outcomes and saving lives. As a key member of the Nursing team within OTDT, you will play an essential role, working within the National referral centre team to facilitate tissue donation from donors across the UK.

The tissue donation programme is under growth so you will also have the opportunity to be involved in the development and implementation of strategies in conjunction with the NRC Matrons to expand the donation programme, training and clinical standards.

Main duties of the job
  • You will be responsible for triage of potential deceased tissue donors, undertaking the clinical and practical assessment for suitability.
  • You will evaluate the information and, where appropriate, speak with the donor's family to ascertain consent and donor selection.
  • You will advise referring professionals regarding donor suitability of potential donors.
  • You will serve as an ambassador for tissue donation, building relationships to enhance partnership working across the NHS.
  • You will take consent and donor selection for deceased donors, while adhering to the 08.00–20.00 shift coverage; this role requires working shift patterns including weekends and bank holidays, with occasional travel.
  • You will possess knowledge of regulatory requirements within Tissue Donation and the Human Tissue Act (2004). The role is based at Liverpool Blood Centre, Speke and requires a normal working schedule of 37.5 hours per week over a 4/5 day rota.

Job responsibilities

We are recruiting for the following 2 positions:

37.5 hours per week - Fixed term for 12 months

30 hours per week - Permanent

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (RN1 or RNA) with post‑registration experience

Experience
  • Experience of clinical management and understanding the principles of clinical effectiveness and best practice including clinical audit and research.
  • Experience of working to performance objectives and organisational targets.
  • Experience of initiating and supporting the professional development of self and others including coaching and mentoring in a clinical environment.
  • Experience of planning and delivery of training within a clinical environment.
  • Experience of planning, implementing and evaluating changes in clinical practice.
  • Understand the principles of clinical effectiveness and best practice.
  • Knowledge of patient safety initiatives, strategies and risk management.
  • Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
