Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) seeks a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs to support pupils with SEN under teacher direction. You will help with learning, care, and inclusion in the classroom and possibly on transport, while following established plans and safeguarding guidelines.

The role requires health and safety awareness, team collaboration, and flexibility to adapt to pupil needs in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate health and safety awareness relevant to learners.
• Knowledge of development needs of children and young people.
• Understanding of child protection and safeguarding.
• Ability to plan and organise effectively.
• Ability to work in a team and follow systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with SEN pupil support, enabling curriculum access.
• Develop understanding of individual pupil needs and programmes.
• Assist with Education/ Care Plans and their evaluation.
• Promote inclusion of pupils in mainstream settings.
• Support non-invasive medical/clinical needs as required.
• Support behavioural management programmes as directed.
• Help pupils move around the school and on transport.
• Assist with classroom administration and resource preparation.
