Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Classroom Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs. You will work under the direction of the class teacher/outreach teacher to assist with educational support and personal care within and beyond the classroom.

The role requires a Level 2 qualification or equivalent, and experience in a learning environment. You will help with lesson delivery, safeguarding, and promoting pupil independence in a supportive setting.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum Level 2 qualification (Certificate or Diploma) from a recognised awarding body.
• Must have a minimum of 6 weeks experience in a learning environment or via placement.
• Alternatively, 12 months’ experience in a formal learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the educational support and care of pupil(s) with SEN.
• Support pupil(s) to access the curriculum and attend to personal needs.
• Contribute to inclusion of pupil(s) in mainstream schools.
• Assist with behavioural management programmes as directed.
• Support movement around the school and transport arrangements.
• Provide continuity of care, including basic personal care as required.
