Job summary

Education Authority is seeking a Classroom Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs in and out of the classroom. You will work under the guidance of the class teacher and Education Authority staff to enable access to the curriculum and to promote pupil independence.

The role involves assisting with personal care needs, implementing programmes, and ensuring safety and inclusive participation in activities across school settings.

Qualifications

• The essential criteria include holding a Level 2 (Certificate or Diploma) qualification in a relevant area and a minimum of 6 weeks’ experience in a learning environment.
• Alternatively, applicants may have a minimum of 12 months’ experience working in a formal learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the support and care of pupil(s) with special educational needs to enable curriculum access.
• Contribute to inclusion of pupil(s) in mainstream settings under teacher direction.
• Support with operational and non-invasive medical/clinical needs of pupils and assist with behaviour management programmes.
• Assist with moving pupils around the school and on/off transport.
• Prepare resources and supervise activities, promoting independence and learning.
