Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs to support pupils with complex needs under the guidance of the class teacher. Responsibilities include assisting with personal care, adapting activities, and promoting inclusion within the school environment.

The role involves safeguarding responsibilities, collaboration with staff, and contributing to educational plans while ensuring a safe and supportive learning space for pupils.

Qualifications

• Health and safety requirements
• Development needs of children and/or young people
• Child protection and safeguarding
• Eligibility criteria: Level 2 qualification with minimum work experience or 12 months in a formal learning environment
• Ability to work as part of a team and follow established plans

Responsibilities

• Assist with the support and care of pupils with special educational needs.
• Develop understanding of pupils' needs and participate in education plans.
• Contribute to inclusion of pupils in mainstream settings.
• Support with personal needs including dietary, feeding and toileting.
• Assist with behavioural management programmes as directed.
• Supervise pupils in activities and on transport as required.
• Assist with off-site activities under teacher direction.
• Prepare resources and assist with classroom administration.
