Job summary

Open Cosmos Ltd. is seeking an embedded software engineer to design, implement and validate satellite flight software. You will work closely with Systems, Electronics, and Mission Operations to ensure robust, traceable code aligned with mission requirements.

The role requires strong Rust or C/C++ skills, Linux development experience, and familiarity with CI/CD tools. Knowledge of space standards (ECSS) and RTOS concepts is highly desirable, with opportunities to contribute to post-launch

Qualifications

• Strong programming capability in Rust, or solid understanding in C or C++ with motivation to transition to Rust in production
• Proficiency in compiled and object-oriented programming paradigms emphasizing performance and reliability
• Experience in Linux development environments and scripting/tools
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools (GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, pytest)
• Secure coding and fault-tolerant design principles for mission-critical software
• Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and how software interfaces with ADCS, EPS, comms, payloads
• Awareness of ECSS standards and implications for software documentation and compliance
• Understanding RTOS concepts in embedded/space software environments
• Familiarity with software verification/validation and traceability for critical systems
• Awareness of fault detection, isolation, and recovery principles in space applications

Responsibilities

• Designing, implementing, validating, and maintaining satellite flight software
• Supporting ground tools, ensuring robustness and traceability for space missions
• Developing features for Linux and RTOS-based systems per mission requirements
• Participating in code reviews, testing campaigns, and CI/CD processes
• Maintaining configuration control, documentation, and full software traceability
• Collaborating with Systems, Electronics, and Mission Operations teams for cross-functional alignment
• Contributing to post-launch operations and build/integration activities
• Driving continuous improvement in architecture, design, and engineering processes
