Job summary

A leading solar installation company is seeking a Team Leader in Woodford, England, to lead installation teams and ensure high safety standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive solar PV installation experience, strong leadership capabilities, and confidence working at height. This full-time position involves managing site operations and client relations, with flexible working arrangements including overnight stays. Candidates must have their own vehicle. South West, Midlands and South East England.

Teams:

Our client is looking for teams of 4 - 1x Team Leader - 2x Solar Installers - 1x Trainee Solar Installer/Labourer.

42.5hrs a week.

Core Purpose of Role

Lead Solar PV installation teams of 4 (Including yourself), manage site safety and quality assurance, liaise with clients and Operations, and ensure successful project delivery.

Experience Requirements

  • Extensive experience across various solar PV systems installations.
  • Demonstrated ability to install independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be a driver with own vehicle.
  • Confident working at height.
  • Flexible working nationally with regular overnight stays (4 nights/week, expensed).

Skills & Competencies

  • Competent in panel layout, string design, and interpreting technical drawings, roof plans, and cable routing diagrams.
  • Understanding of mounting kit types (flat, trapezoidal steel, pitched roof systems) and ability to square roofs, locate inverters, and plan DC cable routes.
  • Skilled in independent solar panel installation, MC4 crimping, DC cable termination, multimeter use, and fault finding (dead strings, stringing issues, DC underperformance).
  • Understanding of fire safety requirements and AC/DC methodology to support electricians.
  • Ability to review as-built drawings, adjust layouts onsite, ensure commissioning documentation, photos, QA checks, snagging review, and final sign-off.
  • Able to create or modify site-level RAMS for unexpected variations.

Leadership & Management

  • Delegate tasks effectively and coach Tier 1 & 2 installers.
  • Conduct toolbox talks (contractor-only and client-facing).
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, enforcing safety requirements, and managing on-site pressures.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and strong safety record.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with CPP/RAMS and safety controls.
  • Conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Stop jobs and manage escalations if required.
  • Lead incident reporting and near-miss documentation.

Mandatory Training & Certifications

  • IPAF, CSCS + Working at Height, Manual Handling, Asbestos Awareness, Harness Training, First Aid (as required)
  • Completion of all Elevate Tier 1 modules & competency sign-off

IT, Reporting & Communication

  • Complete daily site reports, weekly progress reports, and digital uploads of forms, photos, and as-built documentation.
  • Ensure company vehicle compliance and competent use of digital tools (laptop, cloud forms, Microsoft Office).
  • Provide daily client updates on progress, variations, delivery, and site issues.
  • Liaise with Operations Manager regarding materials, layout changes, and safety concerns.
  • Professionally represent the business.
