Overview

We are seeking to appoint a Sixth Form Learning Mentor. This is an exciting opportunity to join our support team, working closely with the Sixth Form team and our students. We are looking for a member of staff with excellent communication skills and the expertise to build effective relationships with students, in order to reduce barriers to learning and support them in reaching their potential. Experience in a school setting would be an advantage but above all we are looking for the right person to work with our young people.

Responsibilities
  • Provide learning support for Sixth Form students on a 1-1 or small group basis, developing personalised mentoring programmes to support academic progress.
  • Offer advice and guidance on effective study and revision methods to help students improve their success in the Sixth Form.
  • Assist students in finding materials, managing workload and exploring different approaches to tasks.
  • Communicate with parents and teaching staff to personalise approaches for individual students and their needs.
  • Maintain good record-keeping to monitor student progress and the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Work with the Sixth Form team and be based upstairs in the Library Resource Centre (LRC) to enable close collaboration with the LRC Manager and Careers Advisor.
  • Collaborate with the SENCO to provide support for the small number of Sixth Form students with EHCPs.
  • Collaborate with the EPQ Coordinator to support students working towards the Extended Project Qualification as part of their studies.
Collaboration and Location

The role is overseen by the Sixth Form team and is based in the Library Resource Centre (LRC). You will work alongside the LRC Manager, Careers Advisor, SENCO and EPQ Coordinator as part of a cooperative support network.

Hours

The daily working hours will be agreed to meet the needs of the student cohort. The formal school day starts at 8:50am and finishes at 3:15pm. There may be an opportunity for additional working hours to support the Learning Support Department by mutual agreement.
