Job description

This Site Foreman opportunity exists with a tier one contractor delivering a £200M major civil engineering project in Plymouth. This major defence project supports a substantial upgrade in the UK's ability to service the national submarine fleet.

Your role as Site Foreman will oversee complex, varied and interesting works including below ground Civils, M&E, topside equipment including cranes, bollards, roadways quay wall, integrated services, new modular buildings, with interface across other sections including sheet piling and temporary works.

Key responsibilities
  • As Site Foreman you will lead and coordinate gangs and subcontractors for concrete, earthworks, drainage, structural, temporary works and marine‑related activities (e.g. dock walls, berths, service trenches, slabs and associated infrastructure).
  • Ensure all works are carried out in compliance with safety, health, environment and quality procedures, site RAMS, permits to work, lifting plans and temporary works requirements, including daily briefings and toolbox talks.
  • You will check setting‑out provided by site engineers, control workmanship and productivity, and monitor progress against programme, highlighting risks and assisting with short‑term planning and look‑ahead schedules.
  • Maintain daily records of labour, plant, materials, deliveries and work done; assist with quality inspections, ITPs, hold‑points and as‑built records.
  • Support induction and supervision of new starters and visitors, ensuring security and dockyard rules are followed at all times (including escorting as needed in restricted areas).
Site Foreman skills and requirements
  • Proven experience as a Foreman/General Foreman or Supervisor on heavy civil engineering or marine projects (e.g. docks, quays, large concrete structures, deep drainage or major infrastructure).
  • Strong understanding of site safety (CSCS, SSSTS/SMSTS usually required), with experience working under strict client and defence‑site procedures.
  • Ability to read drawings, understand setting‑out information and coordinate multiple gangs and subcontractors in a constrained, live‑operations environment.
