Job description

We are currently working with University of Aberdeen, who are looking for a sighted guide to assist a current student with their in-school placement.

This is a crucial role to ensure that the student can obtain the required experience to complete their course.

The below job description outlines some of the key duties and responsibilities that will be required.

Supporting Learning & Teaching
  • Observing class and understanding needs of the children and student
  • Understanding routines of the class
  • Identifying children with their hands up for the student
  • Having clarity that the student is the teacher in charge of learning and teaching in terms of questioning, planning and decisions around resources etc
  • Support should empower the student to remain independent and fully engaged in achieving the PGDE.
  • Respect the student's professional autonomy by following their lead in all teaching-related decisions.
  • Encourage pupil independence by avoiding over assistance and reinforcing the student's instructions.
Practical Support
  • Starting up computer & accessing documents for lessons
  • Ensuring classroom is clear of trip hazards
  • Ensuring they have a good awareness of the surrounding classroom/school environment (internal and external) to pre-empt and anticipate where support may be required at a practical level around transitions in and out of the classroom
Outdoors & PE
  • Checking outdoor environment in advance of lesson
  • Ensuring all children are always visible in the area
Professional conduct
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding pupils, staff, and the student's placement experience.
  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and professionalism at all times.
  • Uphold the values of respect, inclusion, and empowerment in all interactions.
  • Recognise that the role is to enable the student's independence, not to take over teaching responsibilities.
Admin Responsibilities
  • Complete timesheets and take to the student for checking

This position will encompass school hours with a pay rate of £12.21 per hour. The successful candidate will also be required to have a PVG check before commencing the position.
