Senior Youth Justice Officer

Location: Peterborough (Hybrid - Sand Martin House, 49 Lincoln Road & Home Working)

Contract: Full-Time, 37 hours per week

Pay Rate: £30 - £35 per hour (DOE)

Start: ASAP

Clearance: Enhanced DBS (Child Barred List)

Role Overview

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Youth Justice Officer to join the Targeted Support Service within Children's Social Care in Peterborough. This is a key front-line role, supporting children and young people at risk of, or already involved in, the Youth Justice System.

You will manage complex caseloads, act as Lead Professional where required, deliver high-quality assessments and interventions, and contribute to the ongoing development of the Youth Justice Service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of young people in line with youth justice legislation, national standards, and local policy.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments using the AssetPlus framework, including re-offending risk, safeguarding, and risk of serious harm.
  • Produce high-quality reports for court, referral order panels, parenting assessments, and partner agencies.
  • Lead and deliver targeted interventions to reduce offending and promote positive outcomes.
  • Apply a whole-family approach and develop contextual safeguarding plans.
  • Build effective multi-agency relationships with Police, Probation, schools, health services, and wider partners.
  • Support and mentor staff and students, including involvement in training and induction.
  • Represent the service in court, presenting reports, prosecuting breaches, and providing professional advice.
  • Contribute to service improvement, performance development, and quality assurance activity.
Requirements
  • Qualified in Social Work, Probation, Youth Justice, or related field.
  • Significant frontline experience working within youth offending, youth justice, or children's services.
  • Strong understanding of youth justice legislation, safeguarding frameworks, and risk management.
  • Confident managing caseloads and delivering risk assessments and management plans.
  • Excellent report-writing and multi-agency partnership experience.
  • Full UK driving licence with business insurance; flexibility to work evenings/weekends where required.
