Job description

Service Care Solutions is currently recruiting an experienced Senior Youth Justice Officer to work on an agency basis with Peterborough City Council, supporting the Youth Justice Service during a period of maternity/paternity cover. This is a vital frontline role working with children and young people who are involved in, or at risk of entering, the Youth Justice System.

You will manage a complex caseload, taking responsibility for assessment, planning, intervention, supervision, and enforcement of statutory disposals in line with national legislation, guidance, and local procedures. Acting as a lead professional, you will deliver child‑centred and whole‑family interventions that promote positive outcomes and reduce re‑offending.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise statutory youth justice cases
  • Undertake high‑quality assessments and risk management plans
  • Lead on court work, including reports and attendance
  • Act as lead professional where appropriate
  • Support service development and performance improvement
  • Mentor and supervise staff and students
  • Assist with induction and professional development of new YJS staff
Requirements
  • Degree in Social Work, Probation, or Youth Justice
  • Substantial post‑qualifying experience within Youth Justice or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of youth justice legislation and safeguardingAbility to work confidently with vulnerable children and families
Contract Details

Location: Hybrid working

On‑site Requirement: Minimum 3 days per week in Peterborough

Hours: 37 hours per week (09:00 - 17:30)

Rate: £33 - £35 per hour (depending on experience)
