The Senior Engineer is a hands-on analysis and design role within the Civil Structural department, primarily working on steel and reinforced concrete structures.

They are expected to lead the day-to-day development of designs, working autonomously and within a multidisciplinary project team.

The Senior Engineer also shares managerial responsibilities by supporting and developing Graduates, Apprentices, and Designers in the team.

Reports to

Principal Engineer.

Key Accountabilities

• Preparation of design documentation throughout the design process, including Basis of Design reports, technical specifications, risk assessments, method statements, technical files, and other safety-related documentation.
• Preparation and review of optioneering studies.
• Development of designs to meet technical specifications.
• Supporting design calculations and analysis to substantiate designs.
• Checking bespoke design calculations.
• Contributing to design reviews.

Profile

Occupational Skills and Knowledge

• A recognised Engineering qualification such as HNC/HND/Degree with approximately 10+ years of experience in structural design consultancy.

Duties and Requirements

• Strong understanding of structural engineering fundamentals, safety legislation, and statutory regulations.
• Experience in designing Reinforced Concrete and Structural Steel, with a good understanding of other construction materials.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software such as STAAD or Autodesk ROBOT.
• Proven competence in a design delivery role.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising safety or quality.
• Strong team player with good organisational and interpersonal skills.
• Nuclear industry experience or experience in highly regulated industries.
• Full UK driving license and willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays.
• Experience in supervision.
• Bridge design experience compliant with Eurocode standards.
